Indian Villages
Indian Villages – When these words come into mind, there comes a vivid image – a slow paced society with not much ado and lights. No highlights, no loud music and no haphazardness, the only this which surrounds here is the peace and calmness.
India's First Prime minister said, India lives in its Villages. The same saying holds true even to this today. The only thing which has changed today is the pace of life. With the life changing so much the Indian Villages are not less affected. But then there are villages which are still the same in a number of sense. The wilderness still holds here, bells of temples and the cows bells can be heard simultaneously and the simplicity adores itself in their spheres. Its what we call the real India.
Indian Village has been portrayed differently by some. A silent, peaceful and tranquil place. But there is a totally different aspect to it. Mostly Indian Villages have two main things on which they run. The basic thing is the Panchayat and the secondary thing is the caste. In all the villages, the major decisions are taken by a set of 5 – 7 people. This collection of people is called the Panchayat or the Village Judiciary System.
But then the Villages also run on Caste System. All the things in a Indian Village run on this system. Most of the works done by the Village are on the basis of this system. A Major categorization is done on the basis of caste. Though there is a major drop in this ideology, still the practice exists in a number of villages. But that is not all, there are some of the major attractions of the villages which set them apart. And these include the art, crafts, temples, architectures, ages old arts which hold the reins of these villages. A look around these, and these villages become more attractive than the shimmering lights of the city.
One of the first things which will hold you down is the simplicity of the the Indian Villagers. Plain simple, down to earth, these are the ones who will tell you the reality with plain simplicity, without qualms. Village people identify themselves in the terms of agriculture. In addition to this Villagers indulge themselves in a number of other activities like the Rural Arts and Crafts. Appreciated and acclaimed worldwide, these make a special place in the Indian Industry. Like the Metal Mirrors of Aranmula, a small village in Kerala. Know only by the members of a single family, this art is sold worldwide. Then there is the Banavasi Village whose sculptured art can be seen in a number of villages all over the country. If you want to learn making sculptures, then you must visit this little village in Karnataka. And if you have not heard about the village Lachen, then you must be here. This unique village is famous for its mask dance and race dance. All the year people wait for these, when these are held in the months of November and December. These dances makes Sikkim, more the important.
Apart from the Art, crafts and dances some of the villages are also famous for their fairs and dance shows. Like the Surajkund Village in Haryana. Each year in the month of February, this Arts and Crafts Surajkund Crafts Mela is held where artists from even the forgien countries come to show their art. Apart from this there are villages which are famous for their ancient temples and Universities. Nepura, in Bihar is one such village which is famous for its Buddha established Nalanda University. Its also the village which is famous for its silk.
These villages though not technologically forward have established themselves have put themselves upfront in areas which are untouched by the cities. But there are villages which live in the utmost harsh conditions of nature like the Hodka Village of Rann of Kutchh in Gujarat. This place is also famous for its Dands. These dands are the water bodies which are made by the rains. These temporary adobes are the heaven for thousands of birds which come here every year.
Some of the Indian Villages are also famous for the traditional methods. Like the Chaughan Village. It is one of the few villages in Indian which makes Honey through the natural method. If you want to see how honey is made and then packed the natures way, then here you should be. Coming out of all this there are some Indian Villages which have retained the history in their closets. Like the Samode Village of Jaipur. This World famous village has the Havelis/ Mansions which are as old as 100 years old. The art and the beauty of these Havelis surpass the ages which have gone pass by. It is also the place which is famous for its Sheesh Mahal or the Palace of Mirrors.
Among all the villages there is one which village which echoes the Great Book of Hindus – Bhagwat Geeta. It is one of the most sacred Books of Geeta and also one of the most read books in the World. Translated into a number of of languages, Jyotisar, Kurukshetra is the Village where Geeta was spoken out by Lord Krishna. Here is the land where Great Hindu Epic Mahabharata s carnage was carried out. Its a place visited by thousands of people in the search of truth and peace. A place so divine yet so plain and simple.
And then there is the Village called Ballavpur Danga. This small village near Kolkatta was once very famous for its school – Shantiniketan. Established by Noble Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, this school is still famous. Lakhs of people come here each year to see this beautiful village.
Of all these villages which have been counted here and many more, there are the ones which have maintained the sanctity of the Indian soil in terms of the ages old traditions and modern changes. These villages are coupled with the ideology of the Indian soil which tells them to walk on the ground while maintaining the the heads highs. Making India proud in every way, these villages are the heartine of the country called India.
Come here to see the lives which are so far away from the modern lights yet so near to life. It is correctly said, there is more to life than the charms of Modern Beauty and here it lies in the Villages of India. Welcome to real India !
